A standard furnace filter stops large dust, but fine particles like smoke and very small dust can pass right through it. An electronic air cleaner installs at your furnace or air handler and uses an electric charge to pull those particles out of the air. The cells can be washed and used again, so there are no filters to buy.
Air from your home flows back to the furnace or air handler through a pre-filter that catches large debris like hair and lint. It then passes through an ionizing section that gives particles a small electrical charge. Next comes the collector, a set of oppositely charged plates that pull those particles out of the airstream and hold them. Clean air continues on to be heated or cooled and sent back to every room.
An electronic air cleaner uses charged plates to catch smoke and very fine dust. The plates are washed every few months and used again, so there are no filters to buy.
A media air cleaner uses a deep pleated filter that traps dust, pollen, and pet dander. The filter is replaced once or twice a year, with no washing needed.

Dirty collector cells can’t hold more particles, so cleaning them regularly is the key to performance. Turn the unit off, remove the cells, and wash them in warm water with a mild dishwasher detergent or the cleaner recommended by the manufacturer. Rinse and let them dry completely before reinstalling.
