A single frozen pipe can burst and release hundreds of gallons of water before anyone notices. The risk is highest in homes that sit empty in winter, like shore houses, second homes and rentals, or when the heat goes out during a cold snap. HCS Heating & Cooling installs low-temperature alarms, remote monitoring, antifreeze protection for hydronic systems and other safeguards. They’re designed to catch problems early and keep your heat and plumbing running when it matters most.

How It Works

Freeze protection works in layers. Sensors watch indoor and pipe temperatures and alert you or a contact if the temperature drops too low. Antifreeze and freeze-stat controls protect heating systems, coils and snow melt loops. Insulation and other safeguards protect pipes in unheated spaces. And winterization prepares a vacant home so there’s less water left to freeze.

Who Needs Freeze Protection?

Shore & Second Homes

Homes that sit empty for weeks at a time, with no one there to notice a problem.

Rental Properties

Protect your investment between tenants and during the off-season.

People Who Travel for the Winter

Head south for the winter knowing you'll be alerted if the heat fails.

Homes With Exposed Pipes

Crawl spaces, garages, attics and outside walls where pipes can freeze.

Hydronic & Snow Melt Systems

Boilers, coils and snow melt loops that run through unheated spaces.

Businesses

Offices, stores and warehouses that are closed on weekends and holidays.

Our Freeze Protection Options

Early Alerts

A low-temperature alarm or a remote thermostat can send an alert to your phone if the heat fails. That gives you or someone nearby time to act before pipes freeze.

Call-Ahead Heat

A call-ahead system lets you turn on the heat from your phone before you arrive, so a second home can be warm when you get there.

Option What It Does Best For
Low temperature alarms Alert you by phone, text or app when the indoor temperature drops below a set point Vacant and seasonal homes, businesses
Smart thermostats with remote monitoring Let you check and adjust your heat from anywhere and get alerts if it fails Second homes, rentals, busy homeowners
Call-ahead systems Turn on your heat remotely before you arrive Shore houses and weekend homes
Antifreeze (glycol) protection Protects boiler loops, hot water coils and snow melt systems from freezing Hydronic systems in unheated areas
Freeze-stat controls Automatically protect coils and air handlers when temperatures drop Hot water coils, rooftop and attic equipment
Pipe insulation and heat cable Help keep pipes in cold spaces from freezing Crawl spaces, garages, and outside walls
Winterization Prepares a vacant home's heating system so there's less water to freeze Homes left empty all winter

Before a Hard Freeze

Know where your main water shutoff valve is.

Test your low-temperature alarm and make sure alerts go to the right phone.
